Significance
This is a good example of late 19th/early 20th century vernacular architecture. It contributes to our knowledge of the architectural and residential development of Seattle. This house appears to be one of a builder's development along the west side of the 100 block of 23rd.
 
Appearance
This is one of approximately five local interpretations of the Shingle style located on the west side of the 100 block of 23rd. It is essentially a variation of the one and 1/2 story gable front vernacular house type but is characterized by extensive shingle cladding, extremely shallow eaves, and eccentric gable treatments. This house has a full width shed porch supported by slender wooden columns. Cross reference: 155 and 157 23rd Avenue.
