This is one of approximately 2,200 houses that are still extant out of more than 5,000 that were built by the end of 1906 in Seattle’s Central Area, Eastlake, First Hill, Leschi, Madison Park, Madrona, and North Capitol Hill neighborhoods.

| Appearance |
This house was initially a vernacular foursquare structure (pyramidal family of national folk housing) with some limited Queen Anne detailing including a cut-away bay at the front elevation. The original inset entry porch is an early twentieth century foursquare element. A substantial, single story extension at the rear of the structure, and the addition of a wrap around porch accentuate the Queen Anne character of the design. The spindlework detailing at the porch and the moderate roof slope are suggestive of Queen Anne -- Cottage work.
This house was built in 1905 according to the King County Property Record Card; however, the King County GIS Center Property Report indicates the structure was completed in 1902. The King County GIS Center Property Report records that the house was remodeled in 1998; however, the extent of the work undertaken at that time is not indicated.
A substantial single story addition was built at the north (back) side of this structure at an early date. This addition also extends to the east of the original structure, giving the house an L-shape footprint. The large, wrap-around porch was added more recently (certainly after 1937 and probably well after World War II). The windows, doors and siding appear to have been refurbished or, in some cases, replaced in kind. The addition of the wrap-around porch has resulted in numerous adjustments to the original cladding and detailing and has added a significant amount of spindlework. The chimney appears to have been modified.
