This is a fairly typical example of small scale Queen Anne design, although the copious shingle siding and sparse decorative detailing is more often associated with the Shngle style. The structure’s design integrity has been somewhat compromised by the replacement of several windows.
This is one of approximately 2,200 houses that are still extant out of more than 5,000 that were built by the end of 1906 in Seattle’s Central Area, Eastlake, First Hill, Leschi, Madison Park, Madrona, and North Capitol Hill neighborhoods.
A complete permit history, and a complete record of ownership and occupation have not yet been prepared for this property; however, it appears that Louis Jorgenson owned the house from about 1927 until at least 1937. It has been owned by Clifford Barnes III and Sharon Lynne Barnes since at least 1996.

This is a one-and-a-half story, shingle clad, wood frame single-family residence on a concrete foundation, over a full basement.
The house appears to be a simple Queen Anne cottage. The steeply sloped roof with front facing gables and intersecting cross gable, the enclosed soffits, and the asymmetrical massing are all elements customarily associated with the Queen Anne style. The extensive use of wood shingles to clad this structure, the scarcity of trim elements that would interrupt the continuity of the shingle surfaces, and the restraint in the use of ornament, are typical features of the Shingle style, sometimes viewed as a derivative of Queen Anne work.
The simple door and window surrounds, the single and paired double-hung windows with sashes of equal size, and the Chicago style windows at the porch and at the ground floor of the front facing gabled wing (each featuring a central window with a shallow divided rectangular component over a much larger undivided component), are also common elements of Queen Anne design.
The back porch, located at the southwest corner of the structure, appears to have been enclosed at an early date. Several of the wood double hung windows that originally characterized the upper level appear to have been replaced with vinyl windows, and the original Queen Anne style door has been replaced with a flush door
Although the house has no special prominence itself, it enjoys a spectacular view to the east over Lake Washington towards Bellevue.
The house was built in 1904 (King County Property Record Card; the King County GIS Center Property Report, accessed July 29, 2008). The King County Property Record Card indicates that the house was remodeled in 1927.
