Significance |
|
The house is a fairly typical example of local Queen Anne work, although its integrity has been compromised by mid-century alterations as noted in the description below.
A complete permit history and record of ownership and occupation have not been prepared for this property; however, Sophia Nelson appears to have owned the house from about 1916 until at least 1937. Edward Banquet purchased the house in 1960; Chas W. McKinney acquired it in 1962. Two of the three current owners acquired their interest from William and Yvonne Hailey in 1999.

Appearance |
This is a two story, clapboard clad, wood frame duplex, on a concrete and brick foundation over a partial basement. The steeply sloped cross-gable roof, as well as the boxed (enclosed) soffits, the deep frieze at the eaves, and the slender classical colonnettes at the porch combine to identify this as a Queen Anne –Free Classic style structure.
This house was built in 1900 (King County Property Record Card; King County GIS Center Property Report). The building appears to have been converted to a duplex about 1942. The northern most portion of the front façade – which was originally a recessed, front gabled component recessed behind the entry porch -- was extended forward to cover the porch at some point between 1937 and 1945. Two three-part second story windows replaced the original two-part windows in the gables at the east and south elevations about the same time. There is a recent large deck addition at the rear.
