This is a good example of the transition from the late Victorian era to pre Craftsman styling in a late Queen Anne style house exhibiting a fairly high degree of integrity.
This is one of approximately 2,200 houses that are still extant out of more than 5,000 that were built by the end of 1906 in Seattle’s Central Area, Eastlake, First Hill, Leschi, Madison Park, Madrona, and North Capitol Hill neighborhoods.
A complete permit history and record of ownership and occupation have not yet been prepared for this property; however, J.T. Conroy appears to have owned the house from 1936 until at east 1937. Raymond Reed acquired the house in 1970 after a series of transfers from Conroy (or a member of his family) to various individuals near the end of 1969. The current owner purchased the house from Darlene J. Prohaska and indirectly from David Kish in 1992.

| Appearance |
This is a one-and-a-half story, clapboard clad, wood frame, single-family residence on a concrete foundation over a full basement. The style of the structure is transitional between late Victorian styles and the early Craftsman. The steeply sloped roof, the oval windows in the front gable, and the individualized windows are Queen Anne elements. The decorative trusses in the gables and the associated bargeboards (of moderate width) are typically associated with Stick style houses of the Victorian era. The open soffits with exposed rafter tails, and the square piers (originally supported by square, siding-clad pedestals) at the front (south) elevation are most often associated with Craftsman or Prairie style work.
The house was built in 1906 (King County Property Record Card; King County GIS Center Property Report). There have been some modifications to the detailing at the base of the piers at the front of the house. Storm windows have been added and a window box has been removed from the front of the structure.
