This is a somewhat unusual example of the Queen Anne Free Classic style. The structure’s design integrity has been somewhat compromised by alterations to the fenestration and cladding.
This is one of approximately 2,200 houses that are still extant out of more than 5,000 that were built by the end of 1906 in Seattle’s Central Area, Eastlake, First Hill, Leschi, Madison Park, Madrona, and North Capitol Hill neighborhoods.
A complete permit history, and a complete record of ownership and occupation have not yet been prepared for this property; however, Cecil Bell apparently owned the house when it was surveyed in 1937. It appears the property was acquired by Gottlieb Mohr in 1939, by Genevieve E. Roach in 1952, and by E. J. Burns and his wife in 1956. Later owners appear to have included Mandle Rosenberg. Jack and Lue Alice Green apparently acquired the house at some point before the Property Record Cards were replaced by a new tax assessment record system in the 1970s. The current owner appears to have acquired full interest in the property in 2001.

| Appearance |
This is a two story, clapboard, shingle and drop siding clad, wood frame single-family residence on a concrete foundation, over a three-quarter basement. The porch appears to be built on a post and beam foundation.
The house features a rectangular plan with irregularities. The moderately steep slope of the hipped main roof, the associated pent-enclosed gable at the north (front) elevation, and the enclosed overhanging soffits, taken together, are identifying features of the Queen Anne style.
A small, narrow entry porch is inset at a stepped back portion of the house near the north end of the east elevation. A Tuscan column supports a simple entablature marking the base of the upper story where it extends over the porch.
Above and to the south, a distinctive triangular oriel window (a feature more often associated with later eclectic styles) projects from the east elevation
Most of the windows are tall, one over one double hung units occurring singly or grouped in bays. Some other window exhibit a characteristic Queen Anne configuration consisting of a wide but short fixed upper sash and a larger, nearly square lower sash separated by a heavy horizontal mullion.
This house was built in 1903 (King County Property Record Card; King County GIS Center Property Report, accessed July 22, 2008). The structure has been altered with the addition of an access ramp serving the back door at the east elevation. A few windows appear to have been added or altered in recent years, and the doors appear to have been replaced. Some tiny false shutters flank a few of the original window opening, apparently added to serve as decorative features. The enclosed soffits have been altered to allow for venting of the roof, and the associated facias have been modified.
The structure is one of several detached single-family residences situated on small rectangular lots in the easternmost portion of the First Hill neighborhood, an area characterized by a rectangular street grid a mix of houses and small apartment buildings.
