Significance |
|
This is a good example of Queen Anne architecture. The structure’s design integrity has been somewhat compromised by the replacement of most of its windows and minor alterations to the porch.
This is one of approximately 2,200 houses that are still extant out of more than 5,000 that were built by the end of 1906 in Seattle’s Central Area, Eastlake, First Hill, Leschi, Madison Park, Madrona, and North Capitol Hill neighborhoods.
A complete permit history, and a complete record of ownership and occupation have not yet been prepared for this property.
This structure is a duplex and is addressed as 1114/1116 13th Avenue. The current owners appear to occupy one of the units.

Appearance |
This is a two-and-a-half story, clapboard, shingle and vertical board siding clad wood frame duplex on a concrete foundation but without a basement. The porch is on a post and beam foundation according to the Property Record Card.
The irregular but essentially rectangular plan is capped by a high hipped roof with lower cross gables (an identifying feature of the Queen Anne style). The soffits are enclosed.
This structure was remodeled according to the Property Record Card. Although this work must have been completed prior to 1972, no specific date is provided for the alterations.
The porch railings and porch roof supports appear to have been altered. The chimney has been altered. The original front gable window has been replaced with slightly larger unit. The sashes of most other windows have been replaced with vinyl or aluminum sashes. A roof window has been added.
