This structure is an example of Craftsman bungalow design, although the structure’s design integrity has been somewhat compromised by alterations to the windows. In addition, neighbors have indicated that this house was moved to the site in 1988, replacing a two story foursquare residence built on the site in 1904 or 1905.
This is one of approximately 2,200 houses that are still extant out of more than 5,000 that were built by the end of 1906 in Seattle’s Central Area, Eastlake, First Hill, Leschi, Madison Park, Madrona, and North Capitol Hill neighborhoods.
A complete permit history, and a complete record of ownership and occupation have not yet been prepared for this property.

| Appearance |
This is a one story, clapboard and shingle clad, wood frame single-family residence on a concrete foundation, over a full basement.
The rectangular plan is capped by a hip roof with moderate overhangs, open soffits, and exposed rafter tails.
The windows and doors are characterized by patterns and details consistent with early Craftsman Bungalow design.
According to neighbors who spoke with the surveyor when the house was surveyed in 2007, this structure was moved to the site in 1986, 1987, or 1988 and had previously been situated nearer to Seattle University. It apparently replaced an earlier, two story, foursquare residence built in 1904 (per King County Property Record Card) or 1905 (per King County GIS Center Property Report), and remodeled in 1921 (per King County GIS Center Property Report). This earlier building existed at 810 19th Avenue in 1937, was last photographed by the Assessor in 1958, and almost certainly survived until at least the mid 1970s. The date of demolition for this earlier structure has not yet been determined.
