This is a fairly typical example of American Foursquare architecture with Craftsman detailing, although the structure’s design integrity has been slightly compromised by alterations.
This is one of approximately 2,200 houses that are still extant out of more than 5,000 that were built by the end of 1906 in Seattle’s Central Area, Eastlake, First Hill, Leschi, Madison Park, Madrona, and North Capitol Hill neighborhoods.
A complete permit history, and a complete record of ownership and occupation have not yet been prepared for this property; however, Louis Marineo appears to have owned the structure from at about 1922 until at least 1937. The property was purchased by Cornie C. Dantimag and spouse in 1959, and by C. Douglas Parsons in 1964. Mankind Construction LLC acquired the structure from Anthony Williams in 2000 and sold it to the current owners in 2001.

This is a two story, clapboard clad, wood frame duplex on a concrete foundation scored to resemble block, over a full basement. One of the two porches (probably the front porch) is built on a post and beam foundation according to the King County Property Record Card.
The L-shape plan includes a large, rectangular, two-story element to which a smaller one-story element has been appended. The two-story element is capped by a hip roof with moderate overhangs and open soffits with exposed rafter tails. The lower element is located at the rear of the structure and appears to have a gable roof, though the precise configuration can not be determined from the public right-of-way.
The windows and doors are characterized by patterns and details customarily associated with Queen Anne architecture. This is particularly true of the diamond shaped panes in several of the fixed windows. However, the placement of the windows, the use of a diamond shaped window in the middle of the upper level of the front facade, the simple hip roof without cross gables, and the centered, hip roofed dormer are all typical foursquare features. The hip roof of the full-width projecting front porch is supported by built-up wood piers bearing on a solid, clapboard clad porch rail. The upper third of each of these built-up piers is battered. These details, together with the exposed rafter tails, give the structure a strong Craftsman flavor.
This structure was built in 1904 according to the King County GIS Center Property Report (accessed August 18, 2008), however, the King County Property Record Card indicates that the structure was erected in 1909. The Record Card also suggests that the building was remodeled prior to 1937. It is not known if the one story element at the back of the structure was built at the same time as the two-story foursquare element. The structure functioned as a single family residence when surveyed by the Assessor in 1937, but has apparently since been converted to duplex use.
Several of the windows appear to have been replaced with vinyl, although the diamond paned dormer window and the sidelights at the entry appear to have retained their original material and configuration. Added gutters now hide the formerly exposed rafter tails.
