This is a fairly typical example of early Craftsman style design with residual elements of Queen Anne work, particularly the Stick style. The structure exhibits a high degree of design integrity despite numerous minor detail alterations and additions.
This is one of approximately 2,200 houses that are still extant out of more than 5,000 that were built by the end of 1906 in Seattle’s Central Area, Eastlake, First Hill, Leschi, Madison Park, Madrona, and North Capitol Hill neighborhoods.
A complete permit history, and a complete record of ownership and occupation have not yet been prepared for this property; however, Home Owners Loan Association appears to have owned the property in 1937. Charles Dorsey purchased the property in 1971. Yitbarek M. Teshome, together with others, acquired the house from Charlie and Patsy Dorsey in 1995. The current owners bought the house in 2004.

This is a two story, clapboard and shingle clad, wood frame single-family residence on a concrete foundation, over a full basement.
The long leg of the L-shaped plan is capped by a gable roof with moderately deep overhangs, open soffits, and exposed rafter tails. The short leg of the "L" consists of a shed roofed extension with minimal overhangs, although the upper floor of this part of the house overhangs the lower floor by a significant amount. The soffit at the underside of the upper floor overhang is enclosed. Several projecting bays feature hip roofs with moderate overhangs, open soffits and exposed rafter tails.
The primary windows are mostly double-hung, cottage type units with a regular pattern of small divided lights in the upper sash. Most are ganged together in typical of Craftsman style manner. The windows at the short leg of the "L" appear to be primarily paired casements. Those at the first floor level are quite tall and divided into four lights each; at the upper level the windows are much smaller.
The wide barge boards supported by triangular timber braces, the exposed rafter tails, the inset porch with its large built up square pier, and the long rectangular footprint of the the primary mass are all defining elements of the Craftsman style. The relatively steep roof is a residual element of Queen Anne - Stick style design.
This structure was built in 1904. The short leg of the L-shaped plan may be an early back end addition. Some of the windows appear to have refurbished or replaced in kind. A large decorative truss that was once located in the front gable has been removed. The built-up decorative horizontal band that wraps the house at porch-top level has been modified; it is not as deep as it was in 1937 and no longer includes a dentil strip. The entry stair railings have been replaced and the large built-up pier at the porch has been increased in size and somewhat simplified. Fascias and gutters have been added, partially concealing the rafter tails.
