Style: Art Deco Neighborhood:
Built By: Year Built: 1939

Significance
Built in 1939 (with WPA funds), Building 30 housed an aircraft hangar and offices. The building offered additional office space for Navy administration and sits across 63rd Ave NE east of the Administration Building 25. The building is currently owned by the City of Seattle and contains offices for Parks and Recreation. The hangar space remains intact and is used for the twice-a-year Friends of the Seattle Public Library Book Sale.

Appearance
This two-story Art Deco–style office building has a two-story open volume hangar in the center of the rectangular footprint. The main entrance is on the south side, but the primary facade is the west side, on 63rd Ave NE. A poured concrete foundation supports the complex. Hangar walls are clad with aluminum panels, whereas the office wings exhibit brick walls under a flat roof with parapet. Original steel sash windows with hopper sash opening, steel sliding doors, and curved, Art Deco, metal canopy are some of the character-defining features. An original, metal “Administration” sign in Art Deco–style lettering adorns the west entrance. Other ornamentation includes original Art Deco light fixtures on the wall of the cast stone stairs at the west entrance. Construction on the original section was begun by 1938, and the small east addition existed by 1944. Alterations include window modifications, such as non-historic metal windows with operable lower sashes and vinyl replacement windows, depending on location.
