Historic Name: NAS Seattle Building 61 - Small Arms & Pyrotechnic Magazine Common Name:
Style: Vernacular Neighborhood:
Built By: Year Built: 1940

Significance
Built in 1940, Building 61 was constructed to house small arms and explosive devices. The structure was sited at the south end of the naval air station, away from core buildings and daily functions.

Appearance
This single-story, rectangular storage building is located at the south end of the district, on the south side of NE 65th Street. Due to the explosive nature of the materials historically stored there, the building is rather isolated and has only one opening. The metal double doors are on the north wall. The poured concrete foundation supports a board-formed, poured concrete structure capped by a side gable roof. The roofing material is corrugated asbestos panels. A concrete loading dock is intact. This building is identical in design and materials to Building 312, which took the name and function to a more remote location on the former naval air station.
