This is a fairly typical example of early Craftsman style design with residual elements of late Queen Anne architecture. The structure exhibits a fairly high degree of design integrity despite a deck addition at the rear, a possible basement remodel,and some minor window modifications.
This is one of approximately 2,200 houses that are still extant out of more than 5,000 that were built by the end of 1906 in Seattle’s Central Area, Eastlake, First Hill, Leschi, Madison Park, Madrona, and North Capitol Hill neighborhoods.
A complete permit history, and a complete record of ownership and occupation have not yet been prepared for this property; however, the structure appears to have been owned by Frank J. Teufel when it was surveyed by the Assessor in 1937.

This is a one story, clapboard, vertical board and stucco clad, wood frame single-family residence on a concrete foundation, over a three-quarter basement. The irregular plan is capped by a hip roof with relatively wide overhangs, open soffits, and exposed rafter tails.
The house was built in 1906.
The windows and doors are characterized by patterns and details customarily associated with Queen Anne and early 20th century architecture. For the most part, the tall double hung windows occur singly, a typical Queen Anne design device. The Tuscan columns at the front porch, with their large rectangular bases and associated baluster railings are also residual elements of Queen Anne -- Free Classic architecture. However, the low slope roof, wide overhangs, and exposed rafter tails are all features more commonly associated with the Craftsman style.
A large decorative brick chimney (another typical element of Queen Anne design) was removed at some point after 1937. A deck and garage have been added (or an existing garage altered) at the back end of the structure, and the basement appears to have been remodeled. Wood storm windows have been added at several of the window openings.
This house is situated in the portion of the Central Area that extends north of Madison between 23rd Avenue East and Washington Park Arboretum (as the boundaries of the neighborhood are delineated by Folke Nyberg and Victor Steinbrueck in "Central Area: An Inventory of Buildings and Urban Design Resources," Seattle: Historic Seattle Preservation and Development Authority, 1975). However, this part of the Central Area is also sometimes called East Capitol Hill, Miller Park or Madison-Miller.
