This is a fairly typical example of Craftsman architecture, although the structure’s design integrity has been somewhat compromised by removal of decorative trusswork in the front facing gables and alterations to the back end of the structure.
This is one of approximately 2,200 houses that are still extant out of more than 5,000 that were built by the end of 1906 in Seattle’s Central Area, Eastlake, First Hill, Leschi, Madison Park, Madrona, and North Capitol Hill neighborhoods.
A complete permit history, and a complete record of ownership and occupation have not yet been prepared for this property.

| Appearance |
This is a one story, clapboard clad, wood frame single-family residence on a concrete foundation, over a full basement. The porch appears to be built on a post and beam foundation.
The essentially rectangular plan is capped by a gable roof with moderate overhangs, open soffits, and exposed rafter tails. A smaller, gabled extension of the main roof protects the partial width front porch.
The windows and doors are characterized by patterns and details customarily associated with the Craftsman style, though the large multi-pane window opening onto the front porch is not a typical feature. The low slope roof, the wide bargeboards supported by triangular timber knee braces, and the massive built up wood columns at the front porch are also defining features of the style.
This house was built in 1906.
There appear to have been some alterations at the back of the structure. The entry stairs at the north side of the porch have been altered and the original solid, clapboard-clad stair side wall has been removed. The large multi-pane window opening onto the front porch may not be original. Some new windows may have been installed at the back of the house. Decorative truss-like elements that adorned the front facing gables when the house was photographed by the Assessor in 1937 have been removed. It was only after this modification that the timber knee braces (a typical -- but in this case, not original -- feature of the Craftsman bungalow) appeared. The metal roofing is unusual and obviously not original.
