This is a somewhat unusual example of the Shingle style incorporating Queen Anne type windows and some Prairie style elements. The structure’s design integrity has been compromised by alterations to the siding, the removal of the original, uniquely designed and symmetrically placed porch, and its replacement with a smaller structure in a different style at the north end of the street facade.
This is one of approximately 2,200 houses that are still extant out of more than 5,000 that were built by the end of 1906 in Seattle’s Central Area, Eastlake, First Hill, Leschi, Madison Park, Madrona, and North Capitol Hill neighborhoods.
A complete permit history, and a complete record of ownership and occupation have not yet been prepared for this property.

This is a one-and-a-half story, shingle clad, wood frame single-family residence on a concrete foundation, over a full basement.
The essentially rectangular plan is capped by a gable roof with extensive overhangs and enclosed soffits at the eaves but with minimal overhangs at the projecting gable ends. The soffits at the projecting gable ends align with the soffits at the eaves. A large dormer center in the roof facing the street is capped by a pair of hip roofs with a shared wide overhang and enclosed soffits with shallow modillions in widely spaced groups of three
The windows and doors are characterized by patterns and details customarily associated with mainstream Queen Anne architecture. Some elements of the original design that are now missing were suggestive of Queen Anne -- Free Classic work. The ubiquitous shingle siding and the projecting gable ends with no roof overhangs are typical Shingle style features. The oversize columns would not be out of place in a Shingle style composition, but stand on solid, shingle clad railings having the character of a Prairie School or Craftsman style design. The minimal slope of the projecting hip roof at the porch gives the structure a Prairie feel.
This house was built in 1903. The King County Property Record Card suggests that the structure was remodeled in 1922; however, the extent of the work undertaken at that time is not indicated.
The front of the house has been substantially altered since it was photographed by the Assessor in 1937. The original porch extended across most of the west elevation of the residence, had curved ends, was supported by four oversize columns rather than two, was surmounted by a rooftop balustrade, and was entered by way of a centered stairwell with low but substantial flanking walls sporting distinctive ogee-shaped caps. The present porch must have replaced the original structure at some point after 1937. The shingle siding at the main level of the house was originally given a distinctive pattern by accentuating the shadow line at every third course, probably by using a double layer of shingles at that course. This feature has been lost, suggesting that the original shingle siding has been replaced.
