Significance |
|
This distinctive and intact house is a good example of planbook sourced residential designs that were highly popular and prevalently used by home builders during this era. It was constructed in 1907 and is located in the William Crawford Tracts, which was not platted until April 1905; thus, it was constructed only shortly after the 9.2 acre plat was opened for residential development. This house may have been originally built by and owned by Phillip A. Olson, a long-time Fremont resident. Olson was a Swedish-born carpenter who after 1907 resided nearby at 4076 Baker Avenue NW. By 1921, he resided at 204 Bowdoin Avenue. Olson arrived in Seattle in 1900 and lived most of his life in the Fremont district. He was employed by Todd Shipyards from 1933 until 1946, when he retired. He died in early July 1954 (Obit. Seattle Times 7/11/1954). The house was converted to a duplex ca. 1956. The property appears to have remained in the Olson family until it was purchased by David R. Dellaplain in 1966.
