Significance
This house is a well-preserved (and unusual for Fremont) example of a highbred Colonial Bungalow style residence that were popularly constructed during the late 1920s. On September 26, 1928, permit #280681 was issued to Max P.H. Mielke for the construction of a 32’ x 38 ft. “Brick veneer residence with garage in basement” at this address that was estimated to cost $4,000. No contractor or architect was identified on the permit record. King County property tax records indicate that Max P.H. Mielke acquired the building site shortly after the issuance of the permit (10-9-1928). The interior is believed to have been distinguished by tile work in the kitchen and bath as well as a tile fireplace surround and mahogany woodwork. Max P.H. Mielke was a car repair foreman for the Seattle Municipal Street Railway; he and/or other family members appear to have retained ownership of the house until at least the 1970s. King County property tax records indicate that the house was remodeled in1930 to add an enclosed porch.
