This is a somewhat unusual example of Queen Anne -- Cottage architecture which incorporates some residual Stick style features. The structure exhibits very good design integrity despite an early addition at the rear and the loss of some detail elements.
This is one of approximately 2,200 houses that are still extant out of more than 5,000 that were built by the end of 1906 in Seattle’s Central Area, Eastlake, First Hill, Leschi, Madison Park, Madrona, and North Capitol Hill neighborhoods.
This structure was surveyed for the City in 1991 (see separate database entry).
A complete permit history, and a complete record of ownership and occupation have not yet been prepared for this property.

| Appearance |
The original house was rectangular but a one story addition and small porch at the back of the house have made the plan irregular. The small size of the structure and the transom window surmounting the entry door, together with decorative railings, filigree bracketing, and spindlework at the entry porch identify the structure as an example of Queen Anne -- Cottage architecture. The sloped but enclosed soffits and the the elaborate wood trim work at the front bay appear to be residual elements of the Stick style.
This house was built in 1895 according to the King County Property Record Card (the King County GIS Center Property Report indicates that the structure was built in 1900; however, the database from which this information is drawn cannot record a construction date earlier than 1900). The King County Property Record Card also indicates that the house was remodeled prior to 1937.
The single-story addition at rear appears to have been appended at an early date. Some of the windows appear to be new or refurbished. The entry door has been replaced and the opening appears slightly altered. A miniature balustrade that once surmounted the entry porch roof has been removed. A wood fillgree element that was originally located at the base of the fascia in the gable peak has also been removed. The entry stair sidewalls have been removed and new stair rails added.
