Historic Name: Common Name: Style: Queen Anne Neighborhood: Central Area Built By: Year Built: 1897   Significance This is a good example of Queen Anne design with spindlework detailing. The structure’s design integrity has been compromised somewhat by replacement or removal of most of the spindlework elements and by moderate alterations to the windows and siding. This is one of approximately 2,200 houses that are still extant out of more than 5,000 that were built by the end of 1906 in Seattle’s Central Area, Eastlake, First Hill, Leschi, Madison Park, Madrona, and North Capitol Hill neighborhoods. A complete permit history, and a complete record of ownership and occupation have not yet been prepared for this property. BIBLIOGRAPHY King County GIS Center Property Report (http://www5.kingcounty.gov/kcgisreports/property_report.aspx; accessed August 18, 2008) King County Property Record Card (c. 1938-1972) Washington State Archives   Appearance This house was built in 1897 according to the King County Property Record Card (the King County GIS Center Property Report indicates that the structure was built in 1901; however, the database from which this information is drawn cannot record a construction date earlier than 1900). There is an early addition at the rear of the structure. The house was being refurbished when the site was visited in 2008. Several of the wood windows appear to have been replaced (in the existing openings). Some of the vertical board siding at the base of the structure may have been replaced with T1-11. Much of the original spindlework porch detailing has been altered; the original elements have been replaced with simpler components, though the overall shape of the porches has been retained. Elaborate spindlework detailing at the gables has been removed entirely. The chimney appears to have been removed as well.
