Appearance
The rectangular lot for this single-family residence was platted for Burke and Farrar’s Columbia Park Addition and is located in the northwest quadrant of the 54th Avenue South and South Brandon Street intersection. The vernacular house was constructed in 1909 and faces southward onto South Brandon Street. It is one-and-a-half stories with a rectangular floor plan, a balloon-framed superstructure, and 1,760 square feet of living space. Originally, however, the house was one story with an open porch; but, in1938, the recessed front porch was enclosed. The steeply-pitched front-gabled roof has an open-eaves overhang, exposed rafters, and fasciae in the gable ends. A hipped roof projects over the enclosed porch, and a verandah extends from the rear north elevation of the house. The house is clad in wood shingles. Casement windows are located in the enclosed porch while the remaining windows are hung-sash. The house retains its historical architectural features, including its floor plan, yard, cladding, and windows. Therefore, it continues to contribute to the residential character of the Seward Park neighborhood.
