Historic Name: Common Name:

Significance
This is an asymmetrical example of an "I-house." This housing type was one of several types of national folk housing popular throughout the country in the second half of the nineteenth century. The structure’s design integrity has been compromised by alterations to the cladding and the addition of window openings.

This is one of approximately 2,200 houses that are still extant out of more than 5,000 that were built by the end of 1906 in Seattle’s Central Area, Eastlake, First Hill, Leschi, Madison Park, Madrona, and North Capitol Hill neighborhoods.

A complete permit history, and a complete record of ownership and occupation have not yet been prepared for this property.

Appearance
This is a one-and-a-half story, clapboard and combed shingle clad, wood frame single-family residence on a concrete and post and beam foundation, over a  partial (31%) basement. The porch appears to be built on a post and beam foundation. The irregular plan is capped by a gable roof with minimal overhangs and enclosed soffits.

This house was built in 1903 according to the King County Property Record Card and the King County GIS Center Property Report.

The basement has been altered with the addition of a new basement level entry. The asymmetry of the back of the house suggests a number of early alterations. New vinyl windows have been installed in new window openings added at the upper floor level. The original clapboard siding and vertical board siding have been replaced or covered by combed shingles and clapboards of more recent vintage.
