This house is an amalgam of Queen Anne and Shingle style design devices. The structure’s design integrity has been somewhat compromised by alterations to the siding and changes at the southwest corner of the house.
This is one of approximately 2,200 houses that are still extant out of more than 5,000 that were built by the end of 1906 in Seattle’s Central Area, Eastlake, First Hill, Leschi, Madison Park, Madrona, and North Capitol Hill neighborhoods.
A complete permit history, and a complete record of ownership and occupation have not yet been prepared for this property.

Appearance |
This is a one-and-a-half story, shingle clad, wood frame single-family residence on a concrete foundation, over a full basement. The porch appears to be built on a post and beam foundation. The irregular plan is capped by a cross gable roof with almost no overhang.
The windows and doors are characterized by patterns and details customarily associated with Queen Anne architecture. The distinctive muntin patterns in the upper sashes of several of the window openings (consisting of a border of small rectangular panes around a larger central glass pane) are particular to that style. The cutaway corner at the northwest corner of the house is another typical Queen Anne devices. The raised shingle siding surfaces that project from the upper portion of the main gables (above the windows) are a distinguishing characteristic of the Shingle style. The flush, largely uninterrupted shingle surfaces at the upper story are also typical of that style.
This house was built in 1897 according to the King County Property Record Card (the King County GIS Center Property Report indicates that the structure was built in 1901; however, the database from which this information is drawn cannot record a construction date earlier than 1900).
The projecting porch structure and the porch roof at the southwest corner of the structure have been altered (the present flared roof over the inset porch and entry enclosure replaces the original flat roof). Storm windows have been added to several of the window openings. Much of the shingle siding has been replaced in kind at the upper level. The drop siding that originally clad the main (first floor) level has been covered or replaced with shingle siding. The brick chimney has been altered.
