Historic Name: Common Name:
Style: Queen Anne Neighborhood: Central Area
Built By: Year Built: 1901

Significance
This is a fairly typical example of Queen Anne architecture. The structure’s integrity has been compromised by the replacement of all of the windows and by unfortunate modifications to the cladding that have not entirely been corrected.

This is one of approximately 2,200 houses that are still extant out of more than 5,000 that were built by the end of 1906 in Seattle’s Central Area, Eastlake, First Hill, Leschi, Madison Park, Madrona, and North Capitol Hill neighborhoods. The structure is located in a portion of the Central Area also known as the East Madison district.

A complete permit history, and a complete record of ownership and occupation have not yet been prepared for this property.

Appearance
The windows and doors are characterized by patterns and details customarily associated with Queen Anne architecture. The gable-on-hip roof with intersecting cross gables is also typical of that style. The Tuscan column at the entry porch and the simple frieze provide a suggestion of Free Classic detailing.

This house was built in 1901 according to both the King County Property Record Card and the King County GIS Center Property Report.

All the original windows appear to have been replaced with vinyl units. The original half light door has been replaced with a six panel door. The original cladding was replaced or covered with composition "brick veneer" siding about 1950. Most of the composition siding has since been removed (though some remains in the pented gables) and the body of the house has since been returned to its original appearance.
