Significance
This is a somewhat unusual example of Queen Anne -- Cottage architecture. The structure’s design integrity has been compromised by replacement of some windows and alterations to significant porch details.

This is one of approximately 2,200 houses that are still extant out of more than 5,000 that were built by the end of 1906 in Seattle’s Central Area, Eastlake, First Hill, Leschi, Madison Park, Madrona, and North Capitol Hill neighborhoods. The structure is located in a portion of the Central Area also known as the East Madison district.

A complete permit history, and a complete record of ownership and occupation have not yet been prepared for this property.

Appearance
This house was built in 1898 according to the King County Property Record Card. The King County GIS Center Property Report indicates that the structure was built in 1900; however, the database from which this information is drawn cannot record a construction date earlier than 1900.

Some of the windows have been replaced. Some storm windows have been added. The heavy turned posts that originally supported the porch roof have been removed and replaced with simple square lumber posts. The simple entablature has been altered and the porch roof structure appears to be failing. The original porch railing is no longer extant. The chimneys have been altered.
The gutters have been removed. The building is in poor condition.
