This is a fairly typical example of Queen Anne -- Cottage architecture with some Free Classic detailing and utilizing a bungalow scheme. The structure’s design integrity has been compromised by the addition of a new foundation and basement level and by replacement of some windows.
This is one of approximately 2,200 houses that are still extant out of more than 5,000 that were built by the end of 1906 in Seattle’s Central Area, Eastlake, First Hill, Leschi, Madison Park, Madrona, and North Capitol Hill neighborhoods. The structure is located in a portion of the Central Area also known as the East Madison district.
A complete permit history, and a complete record of ownership and occupation have not yet been prepared for this property.

Appearance |
This house was built in 1904 according to both the King County Property Record Card and the King County GIS Center Property Report. According to the King County Property Record Card, the house was remodeled in 1920; however, the extent of the work undertaken at that time is not indicated.
The house was raised a few feet and a basement (including a basement garage) was added between 1937 and 1961 The original post and pier foundation was replaced by a concrete block (CMU) foundation at that time. Some of the main level windows appear to have been replaced and basement windows appear to have been added. New porch steps with new stair railings have been installed to provide access to the structure and a new porch railing has replaced the original railing. The soffits appear to have been rebuilt.
