Historic Name: Common Name: Style: Vernacular Neighborhood: Central Area Built By: Year Built: 1894   Significance This is one of approximately 2,200 houses that are still extant out of more than 5,000 that were built by the end of 1906 in Seattle’s Central Area, Eastlake, First Hill, Leschi, Madison Park, Madrona, and North Capitol Hill neighborhoods. A complete permit history, and a complete record of ownership and occupation have not yet been prepared for this property. BIBLIOGRAPHY King County GIS Center Property Report (http://www5.kingcounty.gov/kcgisreports/property_report.aspx; accessed September 10, 2008) King County Property Record Card (c. 1938-1972) Washington State Archives   Appearance This is a vernacular structure (gable-front family, national folk housing) with a porch cover of a style that suggests that it may have been added in the early years of the twentieth century when bungalow schemes first became popular. This house was built in 1894 according to the King County Property Record Card; however, the King County GIS Center Property Report indicates the structure was completed in 1901. A single-story extension at the back of the structure appears to be an early addition, although it may have been modified at least once. The porch cover at the front of the house may also be an early addition. The combed shingles appear to have been in place by 1937; however, it is unclear if this is the original cladding.
