Historic Name: 810 Denny Way Apartments Common Name: 810 Denny Way Apartments
Style: Spanish - Mission Neighborhood: Capitol Hill
Built By: Year Built: 1918

Significance
This highly-altered apartment building was built in 1918, a few years before the major construction period of the 1920s.   Western Capitol Hill had already become a relatively dense apartment district, largely because of its excellent streetcar connections to downtown.   Early growth development was encouraged by the opening of Broadway High School in 1902.  Within ten years, a commercial district with several apartment buildings was constructed, and apartment development continued to spread.  The neighborhood remains the city’s primary apartment neighborhood, with apartments of all descriptions, from modest buildings with efficiency units to numerous luxury accommodations.  The alterations that have been made to this building reflect the modernization that many owners undertook in the 1950s-70s to compete with newly-built units in both Seattle neighborhoods and the suburbs.

Appearance
This three-story building is located just west of Broadway on a mid-block lot. It is clad with newer stucco with new vinyl windows throughout.  Its original construction date of 1918 is reflectd in the the three-sided bays flanking the central entry bay and the curvilinear Mission-style parapet.
