Based
on the King County Tax Assessor’s record card, this simple building was
constructed in 1925. By the early 1930s, J. M. Moran owned the building, which
he apparently retained until the late 1940s. At least by the mid-1930s, the
building housed Western Tractor & Equipment Company. Although utilitarian
in nature, the building has retained its integrity and has several interesting
design features.

| Appearance |

This is a one-story building with
exterior masonry walls and an original heavy timber post and beam interior
structure. It is rectangular in plan, roughly 150 feet, along First Avenue
South, by 98 feet in width. It is characterized by its six, large trabeated
openings. Five of these, arranged to each side of a former service entry, have
changed little since at least the mid-1930s. Each storefront usually has a
tripartite division and is topped by multiple transom lights, set between
somewhat thick wood muntins. The building is also characterized by the pattern
of light and darker colored rug brick banding, which occurs primarily above the
storefronts.
