Seattle Historical Sites

This building was built in 1926 and housed the Northwest Envelope Manufacturing Company. Although at first glance, it appears to have retained some integrity, it has been considerably altered.

This altered two-story building is located on the east side of First Avenue South and was designed with a lower one-story wing at the back. It is rectangular in plan. Exterior walls are of concrete. The main façade is also of unadorned concrete. Openings are simple and punched. At the ground level, the large central rectangular window was originally an entrance, while the current entrance to the south (or right) was a window. The smaller gated entry, located further south at the end of the façade, was also originally a window. At the second level, what was originally a large window opening has been replaced by two distinct openings. Aside from the alterations to the window openings, the building’s most important character defining feature was the multi-pane windows, all replaced.
