Significance |
|
This
simple, utilitarian building was completed in 1955. Although two openings on
the southern portion of the main elevation have been altered, the façade has
kept its integrity. On the other hand, outside of the steel sash windows, it
has few character defining features. In 1955, the south side of the building
housed the Chain Belt Company, which leased the space. The company also had a
prominent sign on the face of the recessed portion of the façade, as well as a
sign and advertisement on the south elevation of the projecting portion of the
building.

Appearance |
This building has exterior
concrete block walls. Although it appears to be typically L-shaped in
plan, its plan is actually a long rectangle with the south side of the
rectangle cut out. Along Airport Way South, the north side of the facade
projects out, while the south side is recessed. The projecting north section is
distinguished by four window openings at the second level, filled with metal
sash. The north window is also larger than the others. At the lower level,
there is only one window, filled with metal sash, located at the south side of
this elevation.
The recessed south portion
of the elevation has one long bank of four metal sash windows. To the north,
both the entrance and the service opening over the loading dock have been
modified. A curved roof, set over bow trusses is slightly visible above the
straight parapet of the façade, on the north side of the building. Much of the
rest of the roof appears to be flat and at least originally was supported on
glu-lam beams.
