Significance

This Queen Anne style single-family residence is in the Uptown neighborhood. The building’s form is a workingman’s foursquare. The house immediately south is nearly identical.

Appearance

Constructed ca. 1900, this one-story building stands on a sloped lot, fronting the sidewalk along Taylor Avenue N, and faces east. The site slopes downward north to south. There are trees on the east, west, and north sides of the site with a row of columnar evergreens against the south side of the building. The building has a rectangular plan.

The building features a hip roof with a lower cross gable clad with asphalt composition shingles. Enclosed soffits wrap the perimeter of the building. The small front cross gable projects above the front oriel window. Fish scale shingles clad the gable end. An internal brick chimney services the building. A gutter extends around the outer edge of the roof.

A concrete foundation supports a platform frame. Clapboard siding with mitered outer corners clads the house. Wide painted wood trim marks the basement to first story transition and the top of the first story below the soffit.

Windows feature painted casings with a projecting wood sill.

Entrances consist of a recessed porch at the northeast corner of the building. An outer column carries the roof above the porch. A wood railing with balusters extends across the east side of the porch. A basement garage with the doorway located below the oriel window provides onsite parking.

Alterations include a rear deck addition and a new garage door. The basement level has been resided with cement fiber board. All windows have been replaced with contemporary sash. A skylight has been added in the roof.
