Significance

This Tudor Revival style single-family residence is in the Uptown neighborhood.

Appearance

Constructed ca. 1930, this wood frame single family residence is located along the south side of W Mercer Place. The site slopes downward from east to west, with a steep drop to the south down to Elliott Avenue W. This building, designed in the Tudor Revival style, features a steeply pitched cross gable roof with eave returns. A shed roof dormer projects off the rear facade. Asphalt composition shingles clad the roof. The one-and-a-half-story building stands on a poured concrete foundation and has a rectangular plan. A platform frame structure clad with wood lap siding comprises the exterior walls and side gable ends. The front gable end features stucco and half-timbering. Window openings feature decorative trim. Front and west side facade leaded lite windows provide day lighting to the interior. A round-arched, recessed entrance provides access to the interior and a flight of concrete steps lead up to the entrance. A large, brick end-wall chimney services the building.

Alterations include replacement of some windows with aluminum sash.

The building retains moderate integrity and is a good representative of a Tudor Revival single family building.
