Significance

This commercial building was constructed in 1928 according to the  King County Assessor in the Uptown neighborhood. The building once functioned as the New Washington Bakery Co., and the Queen City Floor Co., Inc.  The building has elements of the Mission Revival style.

 
Appearance

Constructed in 1928, this masonry  commercial buildings is located midblock on the north side of W Republic Street between Third Avenue W and Fourth Avenue W. The building at 312 W Republican Street is a two-story building with a flat, built-up roof with a shaped parapets at the east and west ends of the main (south) façade. The northern half of the building is only 1 story. The rectangular building stands on a poured concrete foundation. The building is clad in brick laid in the common bond with a brick veneer present on the main (south) façade. A pent roof stretches between curved parapets. Concrete finials highlight the beltcourse between the first and second floors. Original metal windows are present on the west elevation. The storefronts have been slightly altered and feature some new windows and entrances. The windows at the second floor on the south façade were originally multi-lite over 1 wood sash windows, but have since been replaced with a mix of fixed and hopper windows. An added awning stretches along the entire south façade, obscuring the original transom windows.

The building retains moderate integrity and elements of its Mission Revival style but has mostly contemporary windows and its storefront transoms have been completely obscured.
