This house is one of "22 modern residences" developed as Columbia Terrace in 1901 and 1902. The eclectic and somewhat eccentric groups of houses on 14th and 15th Avenues between Columbia and Marion Streets was developed by C. T. Smith and A.S. Kerry (Kerry Lumber Company) and designed by architects Robertson and Blackwell. This house is an excellent, relatively intact example of a traditional vernacular house form embellished with Chateauesque details to create a romantic cottage, reflective of popular styles of the day. It and its setting contribute to the historic streetscape it creates.
Emma R. McDonald was one of the early owners.
