Historic Name: Fitz Auto Parts Common Name: Aurora Auto Wrecking
Style: Commercial, Vernacular Neighborhood: Aurora-Licton
Built By: Year Built: 1934

Significance
Aurora Avenue North became Washington's major north-south highway in 1932, with the completion of the Aurora Bridge and the speedway section through Woodland Park. The highway quickly came to be lined with auto-related businesses, including gas stations, garages, parts dealers and wrecking yards. This was the original location of Fitz Auto Parts, operated here by William Fitzpatrick from the 1930s to the 1970s. The business moved to Woodinville in order to expand, and is still in business on a much larger scale. This is one of the few extant buildings from the period, built in 1934, and it is still in its original use as a wrecking yard. It has retained its original appearance, although some of the cladding and windows have been replaced. The north elevation has the original entry and materials. The building has been owned by the Conley family since 1972.

Appearance
This simple vernacular building has a tall gabled "boomtown" parapet that makes the gable-roofed building look larger. The gable end has a small window above the words "Aurora Auto Wrecking Inc." in large letters attached to the building. The east and south elevations are clad in aluminum siding, but the wood-framed display windows and entry door are original. The north side has the original lap siding, as well as a main entrance with an oak door. East of the entry are two large wood-framed windows, with three smaller ones on the other side. At the rear is a small one-story addition with newer windows and vertical board cladding. Windows on the south elevation are also new.
