Historic Name: Madrona Pharmacy Common Name: Pure Manifestations
Style: Commercial Neighborhood: Madrona
Built By: Year Built: 1907

Significance
This is an early mixed use building for this neighborhood, built in 1907. It is positioned on a key corner of the Madrona neighborhood, and is one of relatively few remaining wood-clad mixed-use buildings. Its square bay windows are typical of this early period of construction. In 1937 it had three stores including a drug store, on the first floor, with three large apartments above. The Madrona Pharmacy remained for more several decades. The storefronts were modernized in 1959. The building also served as the original home of Epiphany Episcopal Parish until they moved into their new church, designed by architect Ellsworth Storey. Despite alterations, the building is significant for its age, location, architectural form, and local history.

Appearance
This two-story building is clad with narrow wood clapboard. It has a pronounced wood cornice with modillions, and a belt course between the two stories. The modillions are repeated beneath the square suspended bays at the corners and over the main storefront. The main storefront on 34th Street is intact, with a recessed wood door and wood-framed display windows with transoms. The other storefronts have been modernized, as have the second floor windows.
