Significance
The exact construction date of this house is unknown. Van Pierson may have built this house in 1891 for the Van Swigert family. S.H. Summers purchased the property from the Rainier Valley Investment Company in 1913. The Summers family lived at this address from 1908 until the late 1930s. S.H. Summers was a building contractor. According to King County Assessor’s records this house was built in 1919, however this may be the date the house was divided into several apartments, each of which was occupied by a member of the Summers family.
 
Appearance
This two story vernacular house is of wood frame construction and is supported by a concrete foundation. The house has a rectangular plan and a cross gable roof form with decorative brackets and narrow vergeboards. The single front gable that bisects the side gable, is slight offset. The house features a full width hip roof porch supported by tapered columns. The house is clad in drop siding with staggered wood shingles. The fenestration consists of modern vinyl windows, although the original window openings appear to remain intact. A pair of windows is located on the second story front gable end. The house was likely remodeled in 1919 to accommodate several apartments.
