This is one of several elegant mixed use buildings that line this section of Olive Way as it ascends from downtown to Capitol Hill, this one is particularly notable for it extensive terra cotta ornamentation, including polychrome medallions.
Like other mixed-use buildings in this neighborhood, the storefronts have housed a wide variety of local stores and service businesses, including beauty salons, a lending library, cleaners, and an electrical repair shop.

Appearance |
This red brick-clad building is triangular in shape to fit the irregularly-shaped lot on Olive Way, which runs diagonally. The building is on a slope, with three full floors of apartments, a full floor of stores on Olive, and two partial floors of commercial down the hill. The terra cotta ornament includes rounded parapets that rise several feet above the cornice line and are clad with polychrome terra cotta. There are also terra cotta medallions below the cornice, above each window, At the corners, the ornament extends from the cornice halfway down the windows. Terra cotta belt courses run above the storefronts and the top floor windows. Window sash on the upper floor have been replaced with dark aluminum; all have terra cotta sills.
Storefronts are in original condition with wood-and-glass doors, original wood framed display windows and tile bulkheads. Each window has an individual fabric canopy. |
