Historic Name: none Common Name: Anne's Hair Shop
Style: Arts & Crafts - Craftsman Neighborhood: Eastlake
Built By: Year Built: 1913

Significance
This is one of a pair of detailed and intact Craftsman bungalows in the Eastlake commercial district. Their conversion to commercial use in recent years reflects the changing character of the street, which had numerous houses and apartment buildings, now being replaced by office structures. Eastlake Avenue was an important streetcar route, connecting downtown to the University District, first over the old Latona Bridge and later over the University Bridge, completed in 1919. This house is notable for its double-gabled dormer with porch and intact Craftsman details.

Appearance
This 1-1/2-story shingle-clad bungalow has a side gable roof with two gabled dormers on the west (front) elevation. Between the dormers, set into the roof, is a porch with a shingled balustrade. A pair of multipaned French doors opens onto the balcony; each dormer has a pair of casement windows. The dormers each have three decorative wood brackets and extended rafter tails; rafter tails also remain on the main gable. The front porch is deeply recessed under the roof. The porch has extensive clinker brick, in the columns at each end and the piers and bulkhead flanking the wide stairs. The balustrade has square wood posts. The front windows, on the porch, are multipaned.
