Summary for 953 E UNION ST E / Parcel ID 9256900100 / Inv # 0

Historic Name: Otto's Radiator Service Common Name: Complete Automotive Detailing
Style: Vernacular Neighborhood: Pike/Pine
Built By: Year Built: 1910

Significance
This is an unusual building for this area, what appears to be a single-family home with an attached shop building. Further research is needed, as the information is unclear. The more residential structure may have been built in 1910, and the shop added in 1918. The configuration of the "house," with a single window in the center of the second floor, indicates that it may have been a stable at one time. Both buildings appear to be highly intact to their 1937 appearance. In the 1930s the building was an auto radiator repair shop; it is currently an auto detailing businesses.

Appearance
This is a good example of vernacular architecture, with a two-story gable front building with an attached flat-roofed shop building. Both buildings have lap siding. The two-story structure has a filled-in window in the center of the second floor. There are two 1/1 double hung windows with wood sash on the front (north), and on the west, next to a garage door that looks original. It has a small shed addition on the rear (south). The other building has a band of wood sash across the front, with a door at the east end. A belt course above the window level connects the two buildings.
