In the opinion of the survey, this property is located in a potential historic districe (National and/or local).
This church is an important representative of the work of C. Alfred Breitung. Additionally, its associations with the Hill Tract Addition enhance our understanding of residential development in Seattle. The complex of buildings that make up St. Mary's Church contributes to the historic streetscape. Originally located at 20th and Jackson, St. Mary's congregation announced the remodeling of their church and the construction of a rectory in 1904. In 1909, they announced that a new church would be constructed and in 1910 announced that the new church, to be designed by Breitung would be built at 20th and South Weller.
 
Appearance
This Gothic Revival Church has sandstone trim, a center front steeple, Gotheic arch openings and stained glass windows. The adjacent school is a two story brick building with symmetrical side wing projecting toward the street. It has flemish gables and parapets and cast stone detailing.
