Summary for 7100-7118 Woodlawn AVE / Parcel ID 9528101710 / Inv # GL007

Historic Name: Woodlawn Hardware Common Name: none
Style: Spanish - Mission Neighborhood: Green Lake
Built By: unknown Year Built: 1909

Significance
Although records indicate this building was built in 1909, its current appearance is the same as that in the 1937 Tax Assessor's photos, and possibly dates from a late-1920s remodel. The sweeping arches at the corner, the stucco cladding and the red barrel tile roof give the building a Mission-influenced style unusual in Seattle neighborhood buildings. It occupies a key corner location in the Green Lake business district. For many years the major tenant was Woodlawn Hardware. Other occupants have included the McDougall-Southwick appliances, a five-and-dime store, a sport shop and several hair salons and barber shops.

Appearance
This corner building is distinguished by a pair of Mission-style arches that meet at the corner. The Mission stylistic influence is also seen in the red tile roof and stucco cladding. Storefronts are largelyntact, with recessed entries, large display windows and orignal tile bulkheads. Transom windows remain, although they are hidden beneath the varied fabirc canopys that replaced the original metal suspended canopy. The building is of concrete construction, an unusual feature of neighborhood stores.
