Significance
This gas station/garage building appears to be the only relatively intact early gas station/garage building on Aurora Avenue North. It is one of the few reminders of the early days of Aurora Avenue North's period as the major highway through north King County. In the 1920s-30s Aurora became part of the nationwide highway development phenomenon, one section in the Pacific Highway from Canada to Mexico. This building, constructed in 1926, predates the 1932 completion of the bridge over the Lake Washington Ship Canal, which increased automobile traffic on Aurora and led to the construction of numerous gas stations and other facilities for travelers. In 1938 the building was a tire and auto supply store with gas pumps, run by Alex Grunlach. It also had a dry cleaner and tailor in the building. The gas station configuration was unusual, in that it appears to have had the gas pumps in a roofed area on the south side, approached through an archway. Through the 1950s-60s the building was the Green Lake Tire Company, and is now an auto repair shop.

Appearance
This masonry building, clad with clinker brick, is generally rectangular, with a gabled parapet. One gable tops the original entry at the northeast corner. The only decorative features are a brick belt course at the base of the parapet, and two rows of rough concrete insets below the belt course and above the windows. The garage door in the center of the main (east) façade has been replaced, and the windows to the south of it are new and partially filled in. The display window to the north is original, with wood sash and a multipaned transom. The south end of the building has a stucco-clad arch with a gabled roof. The north and west (rear) elevations appear to be original, with three-light wood window sash.
