Historic Name: Mt. View Sundries Common Name: Fotos & Frocks
Style: Commercial Neighborhood: Green Lake
Built By: Year Built: 1904

Significance
This is an early mixed-use building, constructed in 1904 at the intersection of North 73rd Street and Linden Avenue, just west of Green Lake and Aurora Avenue. Although the cladding and windows have been altered, it remains significant for its early date. In 1938 the corner store was Mt. View Sundries, a drug store with soda fountain and confectionery. The storefront on the west end was used as an apartment, as it is today. The Mt. View Grocery was across the street, so this intersection may have been known locally as Mt. View. The small storefront to the rear on Linden Avenue was a barbershop. Above the corner store was the office of a Dr. Mallett. The storefront was vacant in the 1940s and was later Classic Cleaners. It is currently a photo and apparel store.

Appearance
This two-story rectangular building has clapboard siding on the first floor and vertical board cladding above; these claddings replace the stucco that was there in 1937. The most notable feature is the angled corner entry with intact transoms and a square post supporting the building corner. The storefront on Linden Avenue also has intact sash with transoms. The front (south) elevation has two large display windows with no transoms and two enclosed staircases with a wall between them. The stair to the east is original, and the other was added, probably to accommodate more apartment units. The upper floors have four pairs of large windows on the north and south elevations and four pairs of smaller windows on the east and west elevations; these have newer sash. The rear (north) elevation has a small wood porch and rear stairs to the apartments.
