Significance
In the opinion of the survey, this property appears to meet the criteria of the Seattle Landmarks Preservation Ordinance.
This highly intact building anchors the important corner of Greenwood Avenue North and North 85th Street. Until the 1950s Seattle's northern city limit was at 85th Street, and this intersection was the street car terminus, making it a major crossroads and commercial district. The building is also architecturally significant for its tall intact transom windows that provide light into the large interior space. Built in 1926, this building was a grocery store in the 1930s. After World War II it became a branch of McDougall-Southwick, a major home appliance dealer. It was later occupied by Pelayo Antiques for many years. When they moved to another location down the street, a neighboring antique store occupied the space.

Appearance
This corner building is clad with multicolored brick in shades of brown and red. The parapet is stepped at the corners and in the center of each elevation. The most notable features are the two-level transom windows with 10-light sash. Display windows are wood frame with wood bulkheads. The entry is at the comer with a wood-and-glass double leaf door. The original suspended canopy has been removed. The building to the south is located on the same parcel and is similar in style. It was built in 1945 and has been little altered.
