|
This is a highly intact example of a Craftsman bungalow, currently used as a small store. Although in somewhat deteriorating condition, it still has such key Craftsman elements as battered shingled pillars on the porch, multipaned windows, brackets and extended rafters. The building was a single-family residence at least through the 1970s. The change to commercial use has become increasingly common along arterials with commercial zoning.

Appearance |
This is an excellent and intact example of a Craftsman bungalow, which retains all of its original Craftsman elements. It has a shallow side gable roof with a full-width recessed porch; the porch roof is supported by large battered columns clad with shingles. The upper portion of the columns are decorative, with horizontal pieces of wood resting on vertical supports. There is a shallow pitched gabled dormer on the front (west) elevation, with a horizontal multipaned window and brackets. Brackets are also seen in the other gable ends, including the pop-out window bay on the south elevation. The front window has a large fixed center section with a leaded portion along the top; this is flanked by one-over-one sash with leaded upper sections. The window in the bay has four double-hung multipaned sash. Other windows are similar. Cladding is narrow clapboard with shingles below the water table and on the porch columns. The shingles are laid in the typical Craftsman manner, with alternating bands of narrow and wide shingles. At the rear (east) is a recessed porch and a small gabled section that is probably original. |
