This simple brick house is relatively new, having been built in 1954, but the site has been the home of the Aasten family since 1925. They operated a grocery store in the adjacent wood-frame building. Aasten’s Grocery was renowned for selling produce from its own garden, located on this lot. The complex of house, store and garage is unique to the area and a significant reminder of Queen Anne history.

Appearance |
This is a very simple gable front house clad with red brick cladding, 2 1/2 stories high. It sits at the rear of the lot, behind a high fence and heavy vegetation, making it difficult to see clearly. The east elevation, on the alley has an eight-light door with a simple gabled portico with two round columns. Another entry is on the south side, with a small enclosed porch. Windows are one-over-one double-hung sash, either singly or in pairs. There is a large brick chmney on the south side and a basement garage on the south. |
