This is one of the smaller commercial buildings at the intersection of 6th West and McGraw. As the terminus of the West Queen Anne streetcar line, this intersection became a significant commercial district for the surrounding neighborhood. Built in 1930, this was one of the last of the commercial buildings to be built until after World War II. In the 1930s it housed Gardner's Cleaners and Helberg's Restaurant, as well as, for many years, Kildall Insurance.

Appearance |
This simple brick-clad building has three storefronts with glass-and-wood doors, wood-framed display windows with transoms, and tile bulkheads. The building was constructed in 1930, and the entries are not recessed, a more modern style. However, it has traditional terra cotta ornamentation, including coping, a large shield medallion on each pilaster and, between pilasters, large inset tiles in an abstracted Celtic design. The original large finials are missing, perhaps lost in an earthquake. The west elevation is clad in clapboard; the east side is red brick with one wood-framed window. |
