The El Monterey Apartment buildings was constructed and designed in 1928 by the architect E.J. Beardsley. There were originally 18 units. The El Monterey in as excellent example of a Spanish Colonial Revival Style apartment with many fine details and an interesting use of a variety of materials. It is relatively unaltered and retains its original integrity. The Spanish Colonial Revival style popular in the 1920's is part of the trend in eclectic revival style apartment houses. The building has since been converted to condominiums.
 
Appearance
The El Monterey apartment building is a three-story Mediterranean or Spanish Revival style structure. The exterior consists of brick and stucco. The roof is partially hipped and decorated with red terra cotta tile. Detailing consists of decorative tile, terra cotta, wrought iron and lead glass. Numerous balconies, some recessed, are attached to each apartment. Windows are combinations of single multi-paned, ribbon multi-paned or casement windows.
