Significance
In the opinion of the survey, this property is located in a potential historic districe (National and/or local).
This building is an important representativeof the works of Harlen Thomas and W. M. Somervell. Individually recognized as important Seattle Architects, this building is an important collaboration of the two. It is also important as Seattle's first library built solely of City funds. Shepard and Warrack were the contractors. (Seattle Pulbic Library Annual Report for 1914 pg. 6).
 
Appearance
This Mediterranean Revival building exhibits "Prairie" lines for which Thomas was known. It is a very horizontal building with low hipped tile roof. Built of polychrome brick, it is given rich texture by terra cotta frieze of urns, foliage, fruit and books, which surrounds the center entrance and façade windows.
